What is MTD for Income Tax?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax Self Assessment (ITSA) is HMRC's initiative to modernise the UK tax system. Instead of one annual Self Assessment return, landlords will need to:

  • Keep digital records of all rental income and expenses
  • Submit quarterly updates to HMRC through approved software
  • File an end of period statement at the year end
  • Submit a final declaration (replacing the annual Self Assessment return)
